Secondary Surgery Instructions
  1. You have been fitted with "nipple protectors?". These have been secured in place with steri-strips. Please do not remove the steri-strips.
  2. You may shower as normal. After you shower, use a Q-tip and dry around the nipple inside the protector.
  3. You will be wearing protectors for 2 weeks. You may wear normal undergarments and clothing over the protectors.
  4. Please avoid strenuous activities until you are seen in the office for follow-up.
  5. You have been given antibiotics for 5 days.
  6. No aspirin or non-steroidal/anti-inflammatory drugs (Aleve, Advil, Motrin, etc) for 48 hours.
  7. Bruising (black, blue, purple, deep red) or minimal bleeding at the surgical site is normal. If you experience severe pain, bleeding, or redness surrounding the surgical site, call 713-441-6102.
  8. Please make your follow-up appointment for 2 weeks.

Nipple-Areola Care after Tattoo
  1. Remove the dressing (the next morning) and apply ointment generously to pigmented area 2-3 times a day for 7 days. It is important to keep the area well lubricated.
  2. Allow the area to heal openly without cover. (If needed, apply dry gauze over ointment to prevent staining of clothing.)
  3. Do not attempt to scratch or pick away any crust/scab along pigmented area. A scab that comes off early will take the color with it.
  4. Keep site completely dry for at least 2 days - minimize exposure to all forms of water including swimming, sauna, etc. Bathe in tub - wipe around area. You can shower after 48 hours.
  5. You may resume normal activities. However, avoid activities that may cause rubbing or friction to the treated area.
  6. Call our office (713-441-6102) if you have:
    • Redness or warmth around surgical site
    • A temperature above 101 degrees F
    • Increased drainage that contains pus
    • Increased pain at the surgical site
    • Bad odor from the site
  7. Apply petroleum base antibiotic ointment, such as Bacitracin.
  8. Dress site with gauze and tape.

Things to remember:

  1. Some blood spotting is normal for the first day after procedure.
  2. Some bruising may occur at surgical site.
  3. Avoid all sun exposure at pigmented area.
  4. Color may become lighter or faded completely with time - you will be scheduled for touch-up micro-pigmentation as needed.
  5. No medications containing aspirin/anti-inflammatory ingredients for 7-10 days after procedure.
