Aldona J. Spiegel, M.D.
Dr. Spiegel is the Director and Founder of the Center for Breast Restoration at the Institute for Reconstructive Surgery at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. In addition, she is an Assistant Professor with the esteemed Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Education

Dr. Spiegel received her undergraduate degree and later, doctorate in medicine from the University of Ottawa Medical School in Canada, graduating with honors. She trained in general surgery at the celebrated Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Her fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery and specialization in plastic surgery were completed at Baylor College of Medicine where she was requested to serve as Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery. Subsequently, Dr. Spiegel has traveled to renowned centers in the United States and abroad for focused studies in conservative and advanced breast reconstruction.

Specialty

Dr. Spiegel's clinical expertise is in breast reconstruction and microsurgery, particularly in the area of surgical reconstruction with reinnervated autologous muscle-preserving perforator flaps. In addition, she is interested in all aspects of aesthetic surgery and is committed to women's health issues in plastic surgery.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, she is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, American Medical Association, Plastic Surgery Research Council, Texas Medical Association, Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, Harris County Medical Society, and the Houston Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Research

Dr. Spiegel's research interests are in flap perfusion and clinical trials in breast reconstruction outcomes. She has done extensive work in reinnervation of breast flaps. She is a much requested speaker and teacher at national and international forums regarding her clinical and research interests.

Publications

Dr. Spiegel has contributed numerous articles and book chapters to medical and scholarly publications, and she is also on the editorial board of several prestigious medical journals.
